What Does an Accessible Bathroom Installation Include?
An accessible bathroom from LUXE Bathrooms is designed around the specific mobility needs of the person using it. Whether you need a level-access shower to replace a bath you can no longer step into, grab rails for stability, a comfort-height toilet, or a complete wet room conversion — Daniel designs and installs bathrooms that prioritise safety, independence, and dignity.
Unlike off-the-shelf disability adaptations, every LUXE accessible bathroom is custom-designed for the individual. Daniel takes time to understand how you use your bathroom, what challenges you face, and what would make the biggest difference to your daily routine. The result is a space that works for you — not a clinical, institutional-looking room.
Accessibility and style are not mutually exclusive. Daniel uses contemporary materials, modern finishes, and thoughtful design to create bathrooms that look beautiful while incorporating every safety feature you need. Grab rails can be stylish. Non-slip tiles can be luxurious. Level-access showers can be stunning.
Every project begins with a free home assessment where Daniel evaluates the existing space, discusses your specific requirements, and produces a 3D design showing how your new accessible bathroom will look and function.
Our Work in Action

The Risks of an Inaccessible Bathroom
An inaccessible bathroom is not just an inconvenience — it is a genuine safety hazard. Falls in the bathroom are one of the most common causes of injury among older adults and people with mobility conditions. A slippery bath edge, a shower tray you have to step over, or a toilet that is too low can turn a daily routine into a daily risk.
Many people adapt their behaviour to cope — using furniture for support, avoiding showers, or relying on family members for help. But these workarounds erode independence and dignity over time. A properly designed accessible bathroom restores both.
- ✗Stepping over bath edges or high shower trays is the leading cause of bathroom falls — responsible for thousands of injuries annually in the UK
- ✗Standard-height toilets make sitting down and standing up painful or impossible for people with hip, knee, or back conditions
- ✗Smooth, glazed floor tiles become dangerously slippery when wet — even for fully mobile individuals
- ✗Lack of grab rails forces users to grip towel bars, basin edges, or shower screens — fixtures not designed to take body weight
- ✗Poor bathroom layout restricts wheelchair access or prevents carers from assisting safely
- ✗Delaying bathroom adaptation increases fall risk and often leads to hospital admissions that could have been prevented
How It Works
Free Home Assessment
Daniel visits your home, assesses the existing bathroom, and discusses your specific mobility needs and preferences. He considers current and potential future requirements — designing a bathroom that will serve you well for years to come.
Custom Accessible Design
A bespoke 3D design is produced showing grab rail positions, shower seat placement, non-slip flooring, and all accessibility features in context. You see exactly how the room will look and can suggest modifications before any work begins.
Strip-Out & Preparation
The existing bathroom is carefully removed. Floor levels are adjusted for level-access entry where needed. Walls are reinforced behind grab rail positions to ensure they can safely support full body weight.
Accessible Installation
Level-access shower trays or wet room drainage, comfort-height toilets, thermostatic controls, non-slip flooring, grab rails, fold-down shower seats, and all plumbing and electrical work — completed by Daniel personally.
Safety Check & Handover
Every grab rail is load-tested. Every surface is checked for slip resistance. Thermostatic valves are calibrated to prevent scalding. You are walked through every feature, and the project is only signed off when you are completely confident in your new bathroom.
What You Get
Restored Independence
A properly designed accessible bathroom lets you bathe, shower, and use the toilet independently — without relying on family members or carers for help.
Fall Prevention
Level-access showers eliminate step-over hazards. Non-slip flooring, grab rails, and shower seats dramatically reduce the risk of bathroom falls.
Style Without Compromise
Accessible does not mean institutional. Daniel uses contemporary materials and modern design to create bathrooms that look beautiful while meeting every accessibility need.
Future-Proofed Design
Daniel considers not just your current needs but how they may change. Reinforced walls for future grab rails, flexible layouts, and adaptable features mean your bathroom evolves with you.
One Tradesman, Complete Service
Plumbing, electrics, tiling, grab rail installation, and decoration — all completed by Daniel personally. No subcontractors, no scheduling delays.
Fully Guaranteed
All work is guaranteed. Every grab rail, every seal, every fitting — if anything is not right, Daniel returns and resolves it at no cost.
Accessible Bathrooms: Design Standards & Technical Details
Level-Access Shower Design
Level-access showers eliminate the need to step over a tray edge — the single biggest fall risk in conventional bathrooms. Daniel installs flush-to-floor shower trays with linear drainage or full wet room systems with graded floors. Both approaches provide step-free entry suitable for walking frames, shower chairs, and wheelchairs.
Grab Rails & Support Systems
Grab rails must be securely fixed to structural elements — not simply screwed into plasterboard. Daniel reinforces walls with plywood backing during the installation phase, ensuring rails can safely support 150kg+ loads. Positioning is critical: rails are placed at heights and angles that provide genuine support during the most vulnerable movements — sitting, standing, and transferring.
Non-Slip Flooring & Surfaces
All flooring in accessible bathrooms is specified with appropriate slip resistance ratings. Daniel uses tiles rated R10 or above (or equivalent PTV ratings) in wet areas. Textured porcelain, vinyl safety flooring, and resin-bound surfaces are all options — each offering excellent grip without sacrificing aesthetics.
Thermostatic Temperature Control
Thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) are essential in accessible bathrooms to prevent scalding — particularly for users with reduced sensation or slower reaction times. Daniel installs TMV2 or TMV3 rated valves that maintain safe water temperatures regardless of fluctuations in supply pressure or temperature.
Comfort-Height Sanitaryware
Standard toilets sit at approximately 400mm. Comfort-height toilets at 450–480mm make sitting and standing significantly easier for people with reduced mobility. Wall-hung toilets offer height flexibility and easier floor cleaning for wheelchair users. Daniel advises on the optimal height for each individual user.
Wheelchair-Accessible Layouts
For wheelchair users, bathroom design must accommodate turning circles (minimum 1500mm diameter), transfer space beside the toilet, and roll-in shower access. Daniel has experience designing accessible layouts for properties across East Sussex — including period homes with non-standard room dimensions.
